LithLab is an early-stage startup focused on solving a growing but often
overlooked problem: how small and mid-sized businesses can safely dispose of
lithium-ion batteries. These batteries, found in everything from phones and
laptops to electric vehicles and power tools, pose serious risks when not
handled properly. Fires, environmental damage, and regulatory violations are
real concerns, yet most businesses don’t have the time, expertise, or
equipment to manage safe disposal. LithLab was created to take that burden
off their shoulders.
Our solution is simple: we provide fireproof, chemically resistant packaging
and proper labeling to store batteries safely, then take care of pickup,
sorting, and delivery to certified recycling or disposal centers. Our
team—fully trained and EPA and HAZMAT certified—handles everything from
the moment we collect the batteries to the moment they’re dropped off at
approved facilities. Businesses receive digital documentation after each
pickup to help with compliance, recordkeeping, and peace of mind.
We developed and pitched LithLab at the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs
(GSE), where we received valuable feedback and began shaping it into a
scalable solution. Right now, we’re in the conceptualization and planning
stage, and we’re continuing to adjust our model based on research and what
real businesses need. We’re not locked into a fixed version—we’re
building something flexible, practical, and truly useful.
To make our service accessible, we plan to offer two payment options. One is
a subscription model for businesses that regularly generate lithium battery
waste. This includes scheduled pickups, fresh packaging when needed, and
monthly compliance reporting. The second is a pay-as-you-go model for smaller
businesses or those with less frequent needs. This on-demand option allows
them to request safe pickups only when necessary—without locking into a
contract. Our goal is to make proper disposal easy and affordable for
companies of any size.
When comparing LithLab to existing services, we’ve found clear gaps. Larger
companies like Battery Solutions, Call2Recycle, and Heritage Environmental
focus on bulk clients and often require customers to pre-sort and ship
batteries themselves. They don’t offer pickup, packaging, or personalized
service—especially for smaller clients. Other players in the waste tech
space, like Rubicon or Greyparrot, use AI for general waste classification,
but they don’t specialize in lithium batteries and lack the safety focus
our solution offers.
LithLab stands out by combining hands-on service, accessible pricing, and
tailored support for smaller organizations. We’re also using AI in a
limited, smart way—handling things like scheduling and tracking. As AI
improves, we plan to use it more in sorting and classification, but only when
it’s accurate and safe, always with human oversight.
At its core, LithLab is about more than batteries. It’s about protecting
lives, preventing damage, and helping businesses do the right thing without
the guesswork. Our mission says it all: Protecting People, Property, and the
Planet. That’s what we stand for—and that’s what we’re building.
