Launched in 2013, PowerTech Water was just a small team of engineers and scientists and has since grown into a trusted partner for global manufacturers. Hailing from the University of Kentucky and Led by James Landon and Cameron Lippert in 2018 PowerTech Water became ElectraMet.  ElectraMet was a former client of VACE and has grown significantly since its early startup days in ASTeCC, grant funding, and they also received investment from BlueGrass Angels. The Advanced Science & Technology Commercialization Center is UK's premier entrepreneurial ecosystem business incubator that encourages early-stage, high-technological, start-up company growth that will lead to economic development opportunities for the Commonwealth. Now in September of 2025 ElectraMet is celebrating its new Lexington Facility!

What is ElectraMet?

ElectraMet specializes in developing and deploying electrochemical technologies for the efficient recovery of critical metals from industrial waste, such as mining tailings, and other sources of metal contamination. The company’s proprietary technology, known as the ElectraMet System, uses an innovative electrochemical process to extract valuable metals like copper, gold, and lithium from waste materials, significantly reducing environmental harm and promoting the circular economy.

ElectraMet’s innovative approach to metal recovery stands as a beacon for what is possible when technology, sustainability, and industry converge. As global pressures mount for cleaner, greener solutions in manufacturing, ElectraMet’s success story is one that could inspire countless companies to adopt more responsible and efficient practices.

In the heart of Kentucky, ElectraMet is not just building a business—it’s helping to build a more sustainable world.

“ElectraMet represents the kind of forward-thinking company that aligns with our vision for a sustainable Kentucky,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “Their commitment to cutting-edge, environmentally responsible solutions is setting the standard for industries across the Commonwealth.”
