Servicing the Bluegrass

The Von Allmen Center works with clients to establish a funding roadmap designed to help the company cross what is commonly referred to as the “valley of death” for early-stage companies. This roadmap is tailored to each client’s situation and depends on many factors including the technology, the stage of the company, the amount of funding needed, the short and long-term objectives of the company.

Grants have the advantage of being non-dilutive and typically allow the company to maintain the intellectual property. However, grants often are very competitive and take a long time to secure which impacts time to market. Angel investors invest for equity and typically look for a return within a 5-year period.

Kentucky also has several funding programs including the SBIR/ STTR match program, co-investment programs with private investors, and incentive programs based on job creation. The Von Allmen Center maintains strong relationships with these funding sources and works with clients to identify the most appropriate programs for their needs.
